Emerald Treasures was inspired from a trip to South Carolina and conceived by painting a whole cloth background to simulate the ocean and its coral reefs. The mother turtle was needle felted and heavily beaded. Her body is composed of multiple layers of batting to add dimension. She is accompanied by two smaller individuals that seem to follow her wherever she goes. Their heads and appendages were painted and machine stitched in a low relief trapunto style. A painted background shows the water stitched with metallic thread and the coral outlined with trilobal polyester thread and painted with 3 dimensional paint.
