February 24- January 2013:Generation Y: Song of Hope was chosen by the City of Austin Cultural Arts Division to be included in the 2012 People’s Gallery Exhibition at Austin City Hall. The opening reception will be held on Friday, February 24th from 6-9 p.m. at City Hall located at 301 West 2nd Street in Austin, Texas. Food and refreshments will be provided by Whole Foods and everyone is welcome to attend. Please join us. We would love to see you! This exhibit will be on display the entire year of 2012. August 15, 2012: Austin Fiber Artist August Program, Applying Color and Design to Cloth” from 7-9 p.m. The event will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church located at 4622 South Lamar in Austin, Texas. For more information, please visit http://austinfiberartists.org/meetings . Barb will discuss ways to create fabric with a variety of mediums. Lecture will include different ways to add both color and design by painting, dyeing, inking, stamping and stencilling on various mediums. This presentation will include a trunk show with examples of how to incorporate newly created cloth into finished pieces.
September 14-16, 2012 Austin Area Quilt Guild Capital of Texas Quilt Show with over 350 quilts on display at the Palmer Event Center located at 900 Barton Springs Road in Austin, Texas. Hours are 10-6 on Friday and Saturday, 12-4 on Sunday. Some quilts will be offered for sale and there will be vendors, live demonstations and a silent auction with some wonderful treats.

October 30-December 4, 2012:Surface Design Basics with Barb Forrister at the Dougherty Art Center 6 wk course every Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. If you’ve ever wondered how artists create depth, glorious color, and amazing visual texture on fabric, this hands-on class is for you! Students will learn basic surface design techniques from dyeing to discharge, stamping to silk screening in a small class setting. No prior experience is necessary, only a desire to have fun and create! Student must be 18 years old and up. Class in 5W. Limit 6 students. January 19, 2013:“Creating 3D Flowers, Mixed Media Style” for Austin Fiber Artists at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 4622 South Lamar in Austin, Texas. Create 3D flowers with a variety of mixed media. This is a great way to explore the world of mixed media through the use of acrylic paint, inks, heat distressed materials, Beading, Sewing and Soft Sculpting. Learn how to incorporate depth and dimension in your work. New patterns for Calla Lilies, Irises, and a few surprise flowers, along with Tiger Lilies and Tulips.
